Hello, people of Austin, or people that go to Austin once a year and make their streets drunk and impassible. We already told you about an excellent party we’re throwing adjacent to SX Interactive (and we’ve had literally thousands of RSVPs, so get there early!). Now it’s time to let you in on our free, fantabulous SX Music day party, which will take place on Thursday, March 19, from noon until 6 p.m. at Cheer Up Charlies on Red River (a.k.a. the old Club Deville). We’re once again co-presenting with our friends at Flowerbooking, and our new pals at RABBL are handling the RSVPs.
The lineup? Glad you asked. We’ve got 11 bands playing inside and out. On the big stage it’s San Fermin, whose recent activities include finishing a new record (due out April 21 on Downtown), playing Lincoln Center, and co-headlining a tour with Courtney Barnett. Also outside: the inimitable Deerhoof, whose recent La Isla Bonita “casts a jaundiced eye at American hubris,” according to The A.V. Club. The Velvet Teen, Superchunk’s Mac McCaughan, The Twilight Sad, and Milwaukee’s massive ensemble Group Of The Altos round out the outdoor stage. Inside, we’ve got A.V. Undercover veterans Honeyblood, Bay Area punkists Terry Malts, the shoegazy Lazyeyes, singer-songwriter Torres, and Chicago’s own J Fernandez, whose music was described by The Guardian as “textural, geometric indie rock,” which I sorta like. One thing all these bands share: They are absolutely worth seeing. Did I mention the show is free? You should definitely RSVP, though, which you can do right here. Set times and the full lineup are below. See you in Austin!
