Hi Rhythm, the studio band who recorded 27 gold and platinum records in a row for Memphis greats such as Al Green and Ann Peebles, will be the house band. Expect appearances from Jerry Harrison (Talking Heads), the North Mississippi All-Stars, blues veterans Charlie Musslewhite and Bobby Rush, Ben Cauley and the Royal Horns of Memphis, soul singer Big Baby and rappers Snoop Dogg, P-Nut, Al Kapone and Frayser Boy.
Hear these Memphis legends discuss the songs and artists of yesterday and today that have inspired and influenced so much of the world’s popular music on Friday, March 14th at 11am in Austin Convention Center 18ABC. The Memphis Means Music session features Al Bell, William Bell, Frayser Boy, Cody Dickinson, Robert Gordon, Booker T Jones, Lawrence Mitchell, and Martin Shore.
The Take Me to the River outdoor showcase and Music Conference session will follow the world premiere of Take Me to the River at SX Film on Tuesday, March 11th. The film documents the coming together of legendary musicians with stars of today to record a historic new album and reflect on Memphis in its heyday and where it has progressed today.
