Editor’s note: Every year, we ask festival vets for their picks for the best talent at the fest. Listen to these artists-to-watch now and get them on your festival schedule. This post comes from @CameronatSX.
The first time I listened to Car Seat Headrest I read a YouTube comment that accurately described what I was hearing: “This is like early Strokes if they were singing in a well.”
It’s lo-fi indie rock full of pop melodies and hooks, songs that have been stuck in my head for months now. A recent signee to Matador, the label housing indie gods like Pavement, Interpol, The New Pornographers, and Yo La Tengo, Car Seat Headrest are inevitably destined for great things. Their label debut album, Teens of Style, landed on Stereogum and Rolling Stone’s year end lists, and for good reason. The album is full of memorable, earnest, catchy songs that have been on repeat at my house since they dropped.
