Northern Spy is a NY-based independent record label with releases by Rhys Chatham, ZS, Marc Ribot, Thurston Moore, Sean Lennon, The Necks and more. The label was called an “emerging American experimental bellwether” by Grayson Currin at Spin and described by Time Out New York as an “intrepid local label, a haven for avant-rock acts, experimental jazzers and other worthy outliers.” Northern Spy presents adventurous music with no boundaries through a deep catalog of releases, a weekly showcase in Queens, and the annual, city-wide music festival Spy Music Fest.

NYCTaper is a website that has taken a simple idea and, through hard work, become revolutionary. They call themselves “New York’s live music archivist,” and, indeed, they provide many opportunities at their website for getting a true taste of what a group sounds like in performance. They are much beloved in the music scene for performing this public service. Of course, they will be recording our showcase for later availability on their website.
Tiny Mix Tapes is one of the top music review websites. They’re particular focus is spreading a wide net, in order to find music that no other sites are covering (yet), while also commenting on releases that are getting more general attention. In addition, they’ve made a name for themselves with a hilarious presentation of news items, conveying the necessary information while having some fun with this whole thing we call music.
WNYU Radio is one of the premiere college radio stations in the country, with a signal from the top of the Empire State Building that reaches throughout Manhattan and into the boroughs and suburbs. The station’s New Afternoon Show operates under the rules that all music they play needs to have been recently released, hence an always-exciting and eclectic blend of sounds, many of which most listeners are hearing for the first time. In addition to promoting the event, WNYU DJs will be spinning music in between acts.
