Guitartown/Conqueroo Kickoff 2014 sponsored by M Music & Musicians Magazine (held at the Dogwood, 715 W. 6th St. in Austin, Wed., March 12 from 10:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.) is one of SXSW week’s oldest and best-respected unofficial showcases for Americana, roots music, rock, singer-songwriter and power-pop music.
Presented each year by Lil Deb Williams and the Conqueroo publicity company’s Cary Baker, the G/C party is free and open to the public, and also provides a Day #1 gathering spot for SXSW-bound music industry tastemakers — journalists, a&r, agents, publishers, music supervisors, licensors, managers and the odd NPR producer.
This year Guitartown/Conqueroo features Los Lonely Boys, Dave Alvin & Phil Alvin, Billy Joe Shaver, James McMurtry, Jon Dee Graham, Jonnny Two Bags (of Social Distortion), Rosie Flores,and Future Monarchs w/Pat Sansone (Wilco) In addition, this year marks the debut of an art gallery featuring works by performing artists for sale. Voluntary donations to Save The Ta Ta’s and HAAM are optional.
