On to the rumors…

Australian dance duo Empire of the Sun have been touring nonstop since the release of their 2nd album, Ice on the Dune, in June of last year, and they aren’t stopping anytime soon. Their spring tour makes stops at Ultra Music Festival, Coachella, Belly Up Aspen, and the Governors Ball. With SXSW happening before these major festivals and with a convenient gap in their tour schedule from March 9th – March 13th, it looks like an appearance could happen.

AFI released their 9th studio album Burials in November of last year. They start their 2014 tour today (1/24) and are playing  The Soundwave Festival in Australia, Lollapalooza, Festival Estereo Picnic in Colombia, and Coachella. The band has an open schedule for SX, so we’re adding them to the long list of rumored artists.

Ted Leo and Aimee Mann toured together in 2012, and early last year announced they were working on a collaborative project called The Both. Their self-titled debut album comes out on April 15th, and they recently announced tour dates starting April 24th. Even though their schedule is wide open for SX — it might be a long shot for an appearance, but we’re keeping watch in rumors for appearance details.

@SXSWhoa pointed out that Disclosure might be a festival possibility (although a long shot), and that they might also bring Sam Smith and/or Mary J. Blige with them. PS: if you haven’t listened to Disclosure Ft. Mary J. Blige’s new track – do so right now. Disclosure has a small window from March 9th to March 11th to grace us with their presence – maybe one of the big Interactive parties will spring for a performance? One reason for making a SX appearance: Hypem has them listed as their top artist in their 2013 Zeitgeist. Side note: If you got a ticket to the sold out Disclosure show at Stubb’s at the end of this month, we’re jealous.

Arctic Monkeys finish up their American Tour on Feb. 15th  in St. Louis. After, they have a break and then start a European tour starting in New Zealand on May 3rd. That huge gap of time just happens to be perfect for SXSW.

Will BATHS show to SX two years in a row? There’s a small window of possibility. He has a show Feb. 7th in Los Angeles and starts a European tour in New Zealand on March 14th. That means he could show up in Austin at the beginning of music week (March 11th – March 13th).

Tokyo Police Club drop their 4th studio album Forcefield on March 25th, and two days later (March 27) head out on tour. SX would be a perfect time to preview the album before setting out on tour.

Bass Drum of Death might make an appearance again this year — They do not have any TX tour dates on their current tour, which ends in Mississippi on Feb. 8th.

Kaiser Chiefs  have an open schedule currently and could come to SX to promote their latest release Education, Education, Education & War, which comes out March 31st.

Finally, we hope to see Deer Tick at SX this year. The have a very interesting gap in their tour schedule from March 9th – March 13th.
