#SXSWrumors: Round Roundup and Lineup Additions, Round 7 360 225 RSVPster

Well guys, this is it. — SXSW is upon us. While SXSW Music doesn’t officially start for two days, we’ve already had some surprises from The Roots, Lupe Fiasco, Band of Horses and others, and I’m sure there will be plenty more tonight as well.

As is SXSW tradition, the closer it gets, the more rumors start spreading like wildfire. And we’ve got plenty. Here it is, my 7th (and likely final) rumor roundup.

Justin Timberlake has basically already stolen all the attention. If you remember, last week I discussed that JT was all-but-confirmed, and, well he’s finally been confirmed for Saturday, 3/16. Now the when and where are still details that have yet to be announced, but multiple sources have told me that it’s the obvious one: MySpace.

Last week, Myspace posted a press release confirming that they will be returning to SXSW with 3 secret shows that are open to the public, free, and no priority (it’s first-come, first-served). Unfortunately, a PR rep who spoke with MySpace told us that the shows will not be announced until the day before they happen, so we won’t know anything 100% until Wednesday. But, we can make some guesses. The logical conclusion would be that Justin Timerlake will be performing on Saturday night, which multiple sources have informed me is true. Three sources (including The Daily Texan editor and writer Kelsey McKinney) have told me that Friday night’s secret MySpace show is Sleigh Bells (one source informed me that Diplo would be joining them) and another source told that Thursday night’s secret show is Kid Cudi. A booking agent has said that Kid Cudi will also be making an appearance at Peckerheads (where already-confirmed-to-be-in-attendance Wiz Khalifa will apparently be at the night before).   Following that, I received this image of a giant sign advertising Kid Cudi’s upcoming album, Indicud. As mentioned in previous posts, Kid Cudi has been a likely SXSW addition for weeks now, and all of this just makes it seem more likely. One source said this is all going down at Coppertank Event Center (you might remember this as the previous Purevolume House, currently is where Samsung is throwing their SXSWi parties), but another source said both Sleigh Bells and Justin Timberlake will be at VICE bar (IFC house, currently). A third rumor is that these events are both going down at The Belmont, which is hearsay via a security employee – we can’t be exactly sure where these parties are happening, but we’ll update via Twitter with any details.

I’ve heard from two different SXSW volunteers who spoke with a special venues rep who confirmed that Jay-Z would be performing his own show on Saturday night as well, separate from his touring-mate Justin Timberlake’s show, with possible guest Kanye West. No other details were given.

Daft Punk rumors have been flying around like crazy, and unlike every other year, this one actually seems possible. Daft Punk posters, flyers, and artwork have been popping up all over the city, and as @SXSWhoa pointed out last night, Thomas Bangalter was spotted at multiple parties.

Somewhat surprisingly, Prince has been confirmed by multiple sources (including Mischief Magazine). Supposedly, this show will go down at La Zona Rosa on Saturday. Now as for who’s playing with him, I’ve heard some conflicting things. One source said it was the previously rumored Bruno Mars, and this was also said by the Austinist in this post, but another source told RSVPster that the opener was A Tribe Called Quest. Do you think it could be both? Or just one or the other?

Also, from that Austinist post, Lil Wayne is supposedly performing for VEVO on Wednesday night. This is news to me, but he’s made surprise appearances in the past so it wouldn’t surprise me.

Unsurprisingly, Passion Pit‘s tour-mates Matt and Kim are returning to SXSW. The only show they’ve been confirmed at so far is a private party being thrown by The Fader (as confirmed by Fader president Andy Cohn), but expect to see them pop up at other places throughout the week.

One rumor that I can confirm with you guys (though you’ve probably already seen it a million times) is that Skrillex will in fact be returning to SXSW to do a few (likely secret) shows. Details will be released on my Twitter once I have them.

Weirdly, Lupe Fiasco showed up at SXSWI yesterday to promote a startup called Higi, where he is now the creative director. Whether or not he’ll stick around Austin and perform some full shows is still TBD.

As multiple sources have confirmed, Smashing Pumpkins will be headed to SXSW. Austin-based band Quiet Company leaked this info last week, and The Swords accidentally posted on Facebook that Smashing Pumpkins will be at Red Bull Sound Select. This could be an honest mistake, but it seems likely.

This is likely my last rumor roundup, so to keep up with the rumors and secret shows throughout the week, follow @CameronAtSXSW and @RSVPster on Twitter. And of course, feel free to say hi if you see me in Austin!

And finally, for weeks now Perez Hilton has been hyping his “multi-platinum internationally renowned” secret headliner for his party. Due to her touring schedule, my guess has been Alicia Keys. Today, The Daily Texan writer/editor Kelsey McKinney received an anonymous tip that Keys will be at Perez’s party, so it seems like this is now fairly likely.
