McNally Smith College of Music put their admissions brochure budget into partnering with Alternative Press to take over Red7 (isn’t this called the Sony Lounge, or something now?) bring us AP’s 100 Bands You Need to Know in 2012 Day Party. With a line-up featuring The Used, Breathe Carolina, The Early November, Cancer Bats, and Forever the Sickest Kid — This show probably should have been named ‘100 Bands You Needed to Know in 2004‘, but since we all had a boyfriend who wanted to be be Bert McCracken, we’ll give this Warped Tour-inspired show a pass. Sleeping With Sirens, Tonight Alive, The Amity Affllication, Ghost Thrower, Such Gold, Spycatcher, The Company We Keep, We Are the Ocean, and Cherri Bomb all take the stage at this day-long Saturday (3/17) event. Best part — the show is all-ages, and doesn’t have an RSVP — music to our ears, we’re getting carpal tunnel.
No free beer, but we came across an impressive SXSW blog in our constant search for the party scoop that was too good not to share. Operation Every Band decided to do their homework before hitting the road to Austin by reviewing every band performing at SXSW ’12. Armed with a spreadsheet to keep organized, and a twitter feed to spread thoughts on bands hailing from Texas to Japan to New Zealand, the OEB team shares their daily write-ups (with video) of the over 2,000+ acts set to grace Austin come March. You can view their Google Doc to keep up with the listening party — better start soon, only 4 weeks left to study up.
