Editor’s Note: We’ve asked one of our favorite Austin bands (and official SXSW showcasing band) Zorch to share the acts they’re most excited to see at SXSW ’12.  The keyboard/drums duo are South by  vets — they played 19 shows in 10 days during SX ’11, they’ve been involved with booking countless other ragin’ events (Escapes in ’11), and notably threw South By South Mess in 2010 – potentially the rowdiest party to in the history of West Campus that had 21St Co-Op dwellers, known for their nudity and love of fire, up all night hanging from rafters partyin’ with Andrew WK. There’s the first set bands loved by Zorch, and check out their website for their SXSW show dates.

In light of the impending SXSW, and the ridiculous amount of rad friends/bands from out of town coming this year — I decided start listing some bands I can’t wait to see. Hope everyone on Earth is coming to Austin, and staying in our backyard. If you want us to play your grandma’s kitchen email us soonish as we’re starting to get booked up. PS These are in no particular order; I love them all equally.

Without further ado, band recommendation #1 – Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt.  Neil Fridd of TP is personally one of our favorite people of all time. Probably the most posi and kind dance party invoking power glove pizza party strobe light individuals in existence. Terror Pigeon for president 2012. The world would be a better place if more people went to see him play.

SXSW band recommendation #2 – HUME. Hailing from Washington D.C. these dudes create waves of psychedelia and minimalism, one of the best two drummer set ups I’ve seen. Super nice dudes, and if you want to dive deeper their guitarist has a solo project that is exceptional called Body Wishes.

SXSW recommendation #3 – Pets with Pets from Australia. Being that we’ve been involved in lots of booking during SXSW, we get lots of random emails from bands looking for shows or advice. Most of the time they are very questionable. Pets with Pets on the other hand were a great exception. Their email was very charming and polite and after doing some YouTube research, I am now a fan. A psychedelic two-piece with VHS compilation youtube videos, and projections to match. Check them out:

SXSW Band Recommendation #4 – Blastoids  from Murfreesboro, TN. Murfreesboro is a magical oasis of awesome people, great bands, and fun times. These boys bring all of that with them to every show. They tour with a whole collection of the best people ever in the Rad Bus. You can expect to see them set up outside of Wendy’s for the whole festival throwing shows till someone pulls the plug. Zorch will most likely join our friends at some point for the South-by-South-Wendy’s experience as well.

SXSW Band Recommendation #5 – Ava Luna from Brooklyn, NY. Super rad harmonies and a healthy amount of soul. It’s kinda of a long connection why we know these guys, but in short… their drummer is a super nice guy and also played with a band called Quilty. We played a show with them that had little to no one in attendance last SXSW, so we asked their trombone player to join Zorch and for one glorious day we were Chuck feat. Zorch. We’ve stayed in touch since then and his other project Ava Luna has consistently put out awesome material.
